TL;DR: These names describe systems whose extent scales by tier, so two similar machines can differ inside. Naming the feature that is misbehaving books the right part.

Electrolux laundry terms fill a spec sheet without explaining themselves. LuxCare, SmartBoost, Perfect Steam, Predictive Dry, Pure Rinse β€” each names a specific system, and several of them scale by tier, so two machines that look alike can have quite different hardware inside. This glossary explains the ones that come up when buying a machine, reading a cycle list, or describing a fault to a technician.

LuxCare WashThe core wash system. A fuller version, LuxCare Wash System Plus, appears on flagship tiers.
SmartBoostPremixes detergent and water before it reaches the load. Flagship tiers.
Perfect SteamSteam introduced during a cycle, on washers and on dryers.
Predictive DrySensor feedback deciding when a dryer load is finished.
πŸ”΄ Tiers matterFeatures scale by tier, so the same name does not mean the same hardware everywhere.

Wash system terms

LuxCare Wash System. The core washing arrangement on these machines, present across the range. On flagship-tier models it appears as LuxCare Wash System Plus, a fuller version of the same idea; entry-tier machines keep the core system together with Perfect Steam. When comparing two machines, this is one of the places where an apparently identical pair genuinely differs.

SmartBoost. Premixes detergent and water before the mixture reaches the load, so it is distributed evenly rather than landing on whatever is at the front of the drum. It is a flagship-tier feature aimed at tough stains, and it changes how you should dose: the system is designed around a correct amount, and overdosing defeats the even distribution it exists to produce.

Pure Rinse. An additional rinsing arrangement on higher tiers, for households sensitive to detergent residue.

Perfect Steam. Steam added during the cycle. On a washer it helps release soil and relax fibers; on a dryer it reduces creasing. Steam means a water path in the appliance, which is a component set a non-steam machine does not have.

The door filter is what protects the sensing and the airflow behind it; softener residue on the sensor strips does the rest of the damage.

Dryer terms

Predictive Dry. Sensors read the load as it dries and the machine decides when it is finished, rather than running a fixed time. Our page on how Predictive Dry works covers the mechanism, and it explains a behavior people report as a fault: cycle times that vary between apparently identical loads. That variation is the feature working.

LuxCare Dry. Heat management working alongside the sensing, so a load finishes at a more consistent dryness across different fabric types instead of applying one blanket setting to everything.

Moisture sensor. The physical part behind the sensing β€” metal strips inside the drum that read conductivity as clothes tumble across them. Softener residue coats them and makes a dryer stop early, which is the single most common cause of “it stopped drying properly” on any sensor dryer.

Refrigeration and dishwasher terms you will meet

SpillSafe glass shelves. Shelves with a raised edge, so a spill stays on the shelf rather than running onto the one below. They are still glass, and the advice is the same as for any interior: wipe spills promptly rather than relying on the edge.

PureAdvantage filtration. The water filtration system on refrigerators with dispensers and ice makers, covered in the site’s page on how PureAdvantage filtration works.

Luxury-Glide. Drawer and shelf runners designed to extend smoothly under load.

Cool Zone. A separately managed compartment for items wanting a different temperature from the main cabinet.

ProClean System and SatelliteSpray. Dishwasher terms from legacy models β€” a wash system and an orbiting spray arm. They turn up in parts conversations on machines that are no longer in production but are very much still in kitchens.

Luxury-Dry. The drying arrangement on those dishwashers, aimed at spot-free results.

Words that appear when something is wrong

Error and fault codes. Short displays of two to four characters. They name the condition the machine detected, not the part that failed, and the same characters can mean different things on a different appliance or a different generation. The model plate decides which documentation applies.

Drain pump filter. The accessible filter behind the lower front panel of a front-load washer. It is a maintenance item rather than a repair part, and a loaded one produces drainage faults that read as pump failure β€” see our page on the EF0 error.

Pressure sensing. How a washer knows the water level, through a small air hose to a sensor. Residue in that hose makes a machine misjudge the drum, and the resulting symptoms look nothing like a blocked tube.

Door lock and interlock. The mechanism that keeps a front-load door shut while water is in the drum. A failed lock reads as a machine that will not start, which sends people looking at the control board.

Cooking terms

Perfect Taste ConvectionThe convection arrangement in the ovens β€” see how it works.
InductionHeats the pan directly through a magnetic field. Needs ferrous cookware.
RadiantElements under glass heating the surface, which heats the pan. Any cookware works.
Self-cleanA high-temperature cycle that locks the door. Hard on seals and hinges.
Rating plateModel and serial. Everything in a parts conversation starts here.

Why tiers matter more than names

The most useful thing to take from this list is that feature names describe systems whose extent varies by tier. A machine can carry a familiar name and have the core version of that system rather than the fuller one. When comparing models, the question worth asking is not “does it have LuxCare” β€” most do β€” but which version, and what the tier adds beyond it.

The same applies in reverse when a machine needs service. Naming the feature that is misbehaving tells a technician which hardware to look at, and on a brand where systems scale by tier that is more useful than describing the symptom alone. Our washer buying guide goes through how the tiers differ in practice.

When to call

Call when a named system stops behaving as described β€” a dryer finishing wet loads early, a washer not producing steam, a dispenser or filtration system that has stopped delivering β€” or when you are unsure which version of a system your machine has before ordering a part.
