Many models also include a control-lock or dispenser-lock feature, engaged either intentionally or by an accidental press-and-hold on the display, that disables the dispenser without affecting the rest of the refrigerator.
First checks you can do
- Check the display for a locked padlock icon or similar indicator, and hold the lock button to disengage it if present.
- Replace the water filter if it is past its recommended replacement interval, typically every six months.
- Confirm the freezer is not running colder than its normal set point, which can freeze the internal water line.
- Press the dispenser paddle firmly and hold for a few seconds, since a weak or brief press can seem like no flow at all.
- Confirm the household water supply valve behind the refrigerator is fully open.
If flow returns after a filter change, that alone often resolves the complaint, and the ice maker frequently benefits from the same fresh filter.
When it is the dispenser valve or line
If the filter is fresh, the freezer temperature is normal, and the control lock is off but water still will not dispense, a solenoid-operated dispenser valve or a line elsewhere in the door may have failed or developed a permanent blockage. This needs a technician to test the valve directly and confirm the problem before replacing a genuine OEM part.
