A refrigerator ice maker not working inside an Electrolux built-in French-door or side-by-side refrigerator is a separate module from a standalone ice maker, but shares many of the same root causes. Because the automatic ice maker draws both cold air from the freezer and a water supply line, a problem in either one stops ice production even though the rest of the refrigerator runs normally.

Why a refrigerator ice maker not working happens
The ice maker needs the freezer compartment at or near its target temperature, typically around 0°F, to freeze water into cubes on schedule. A frozen or kinked water line behind the refrigerator, a clogged inline water filter, or a closed household shut-off valve will also stop water from reaching the ice maker even with the freezer running cold.
First checks you can do
- Confirm the freezer compartment is holding its set temperature; a freezer running warm needs to be resolved first.
- Check that the ice maker’s on/off arm or switch has not been accidentally bumped to the off position while loading the freezer.
- Confirm the household water supply valve feeding the refrigerator is fully open.
- Replace the water filter if it is overdue, since a clogged filter restricts flow enough to stop ice production.
- Check behind the refrigerator for a kinked or frozen water line, particularly if the unit was recently moved.
Give the system 24 hours after any fix before judging whether ice production has resumed, since the ice maker cycles on its own schedule rather than producing ice instantly.
When it is the ice maker module itself
If the freezer is cold, the water supply is confirmed good, and the arm is switched on but ice still is not forming, the ice maker module’s water inlet valve, its motor, or its internal thermostat may have failed. These need testing to confirm before replacing, since the correct genuine OEM part depends on exactly which component has failed.
