The RTD sensor is a small probe, usually mounted near the top rear of the oven cavity, that changes electrical resistance predictably as temperature rises — reading close to 1,100 ohms at room temperature on a healthy sensor. The electronic oven control reads that resistance continuously to manage the heating elements. F30 means the control is seeing an open circuit on that sensor line — no signal at all — while F31 means it is seeing a short. Either way, the control cannot trust the temperature reading and stops normal operation to protect against overheating.
What causes it
