Technologies and features
Electrolux undercounter ice makers are built around Crystal Clear Ice production, which slow-freezes water to squeeze out air and minerals for denser, clearer cubes than a standard refrigerator ice maker produces. The UL15IM20RS and UR15IM20RS add Delay Mode and Energy Saving Mode for quieter, lower-draw operation, along with Self-Defrosting to keep the ice-making components clear between cycles; both are also ADA Compliant for accessible installations. The current E15IM60 series adds a Blue LED Display for status and settings. Because these are compact, purpose-built appliances, the parts that wear are the water inlet valve, the ice-maker module and harvest mechanism, the recirculating pump, the condenser fan, and — on gravity-drain models — the drain path itself, all matched to the specific E15IM or UL/UR15IM build.
Common issues and maintenance
Electrolux does not publish a numeric error-code list for undercounter ice makers, so troubleshooting is symptom-based. An ice maker not making ice is most commonly a clogged or expired water filter, a faulty inlet valve, water pressure below about 20 psi, or a unit running warmer than its ideal 0–5°F range. Small or hollow cubes point to low water pressure — the single most common cause on undercounter units — a kinked water line, or a temperature setting that is not cold enough. Ice that tastes bad or looks dirty is almost always a filter overdue for replacement (every roughly six months) or mineral buildup in the bin and chute. An ice maker leaking is typically a cracked tray, a low-pressure condition preventing the inlet valve from closing fully, or a clogged drain hose. A unit that is frozen up or jammed usually has ice clumped too large for the auger from infrequent use, or ice that melted and refroze around the mechanism after a temperature swing or power outage — thawing and cleaning the bin resolves most cases without forcing the auger. Slow ice production most often traces to low water pressure, a clogged filter, or a dirty condenser trapping heat. Regular filter changes, keeping the unit within its rated clearance for airflow, and dispensing ice regularly to prevent large clumps prevent most of these calls. Because these units draw on household plumbing rather than a refrigerator’s internal water line, it is also worth checking that the shutoff valve behind the cabinet is fully open and that no other fixture is drawing from the same line at the moment ice production slows.
