TL;DR: Electrolux cooktop error codes E0 to E9 cover pan detection, supply power, induction hardware, board communication and the touch panel. Dry the panel and check the pan yourself; leave power codes to a professional.

Electrolux cooktop error codes run from E0 to E9, and each one points to a different part of the cooktop: E0 is a configuration error between the control interface and the power board, E1 and E2 are pan or pot detection, E3 and E5 are about the supply voltage and the wiring, E4 and E6 are induction hardware, E7 and E8 are communication, and E9 is an internal interface error that a wet touch panel often triggers. Only a few of them are yours to fix: dry the panel, check the cookware and reset the power. Anything about the incoming power belongs to an electrician or a technician.

E0Configuration error between the control interface and the power board
E1Compatibility or pan-detection failure on an induction cooktop
E2Pot-detection error on a radiant or ceramic cooktop
E3Overvoltage or wrong electrical connection
E4Induction-coil temperature-sensor defect
E5Supply voltage out of range, sometimes a missing phase on the installation
E6Induction or heating power-module defect
E7Display or zone communication error
E8Communication error with the power board
E9Internal interface error, commonly triggered by liquid on the touch controls

What do the Electrolux cooktop error codes mean?

An Electrolux cooktop error code is a short message from the cooktop’s control system, and the table above gives the meaning for each one as it is described on the code pages of this site. Think of the codes as five groups. The first group, E1 and E2, is about the cookware: the cooktop cannot see a suitable pan or pot. The second, E3 and E5, is about the electricity coming into the cooktop. The third, E4 and E6, is about the induction hardware itself. The fourth, E0, E7 and E8, is about the boards inside talking to each other. The fifth, E9, is about the touch controls.

Each code has its own page with symptoms and causes: start with cooktop E1, cooktop E3 or cooktop E9 if one of those is on your display.

What do E3 and E5 mean on an Electrolux cooktop?

These are the two codes people search for most, and they are different in kind from the rest. E3 is an overvoltage or wrong-electrical-connection error, and E5 is a supply voltage out of range, sometimes caused by a missing phase on the installation. In both cases the cooktop is telling you that the power arriving at it is not what it expects. This is not a pan problem. Do not open the cooktop or the junction box to look. Turn the breaker off, and have an electrician or one of our technicians check the supply and the wiring connection, since that is household voltage.

E5 is not unique to cooktops: a dryer can show an E5 as well, with a different meaning. On a dryer, E5 is an outlet thermistor fault, so make sure you are reading the right page. Our Electrolux dryer error codes guide covers that appliance separately.

A wet or dirty touch strip is a common reason a cooktop acts as if a key is stuck.

What do E1, E2 and E4 mean?

E1 is a pan-detection or compatibility problem on an induction cooktop. The usual first check is the cookware: a pan with a base that is warped, too small for the zone or not magnetic will not be detected. Try a flat, magnetic pan centered on the zone. Our induction cookware compatibility tips show how to test a pan with a magnet. E2 is the radiant version, a pot-detection error on a radiant or ceramic cooktop. E4 is a defect in the induction coil’s temperature sensor, which needs a technician. If an induction zone does not heat at all with no code, read Electrolux induction cooktop not heating.

What do E0, E7 and E8 mean?

These three codes point at the boards behind the glass. E0 is a configuration error between the control interface and the power board. E7 is a display or zone communication error, often shown as an E or a question mark in a zone indicator, and E8 is a communication error with the power board. None of the three is something you can fix by cleaning. A power reset at the breaker is worth one try, because a communication glitch can clear when the boards restart. If the code returns, a technician needs to check the connectors and the boards. We have a full guide on the Electrolux cooktop E8 error.

What do E6 and E9 mean?

E6 is a defect in the induction or heating power module, which is a technician repair. E9 is the friendliest code in the list: it is an internal interface error that is commonly triggered by liquid on the touch controls, so a boil-over or a wet cloth can make the panel act as if a key were stuck. Clean the panel, dry it fully and wait. If the code clears, you have your answer. If it comes back on a dry panel, the interface board needs a check. Our Electrolux glass cooktop care guide shows how to clean around the controls safely.

What can you do yourself, and when do you call a technician?

You can dry and clean the panel, switch the cooktop off and on again at the breaker once, try a different pan on the zone and make sure nothing sits on the controls. You should not open the cooktop, handle the wiring or test a board with the power on. Call a technician for E0, E3, E4, E5, E6, E7 and E8, and for any code that comes back after a dry panel and a reset. Our Electrolux cooktop repair service diagnoses the code and tells you plainly whether a repair is worth it.

Frequently asked questions
What does E5 mean on an Electrolux cooktop?
It means the supply voltage is out of range, sometimes because of a missing phase on the installation. Turn the breaker off and have the supply checked by a professional.
What does E3 mean on an Electrolux cooktop?
E3 is an overvoltage or wrong-electrical-connection error. Do not open the cooktop; call an electrician or technician to check the connection.
How do I clear E9 on my Electrolux cooktop?
Clean and thoroughly dry the touch panel, since liquid on the controls is a common trigger. If it returns on a dry panel, the interface board should be checked.
Is the Electrolux cooktop E6 error serious?
E6 is described as a power-module defect, and it needs a technician. Do not keep using a zone that shows it.
When should I call a technician?
Call for any power or board code, or when a code returns after a dry panel and a reset. You can book a visit with the model number ready.
